The "fight or flight" reflex has a natural countermeasure. It's known as the parasympathetic nerve system, or "relaxation response," and it's engaged automatically when the stressors are removed. However, you may boost its benefits by breathing deeply and relaxing your muscles. By lengthening this process, you allow your body to recover more quickly, allowing them to eliminate the adverse effects of stress more quickly and effectively.

Yoga emphasizes the concept of reducing the detrimental effects of stress factors on your body via the use of breathing and relaxation practices.
