5 Fool-Proof Methods To Live A More Mindful Life

Mindfulness is the fundamental human ability to be fully present, and mindful of where you are and what you are doing, without becoming overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is going on around you.

However, stressful things happen and sometimes you forget to breathe. But you can change your thinking and the way you look at things that happen in your life, as a strategy for achieving and maintaining good health and well-being so you can still be at your full potential.

One step towards achieving this is to become more mindful and integrate more mindfulness practices into your daily life

Make Time for Meditation

Meditation doesn't have to be a time-consuming activity. You can reap the advantages of focused meditation in as little as 5 to 10 minutes. The greatest time to meditate is immediately after waking up in the morning when your mind is clear of to-do lists and other distracting thoughts.

During meditation, learn to focus your awareness on the present moment; calmly acknowledge and accept your feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, along with your breathing. You might not get your main goal on your first try, but being consistent and patient with your meditation practice will surely progress it to something better.

Meditation is not something that can be learned overnight. It takes practice, but the benefits add up. The more you practice, the better you'll become

Recently, we reviewed Zoe Bray-Cotton's 12-week Yoga Burn program, which you can read in a future post. We saw improvements in our ability to reach a mediated state and improvements in both awareness and health. Check out this video page to learn more.

Take More Technology Breaks

Technology plays an important role in society today; it has positive and negative effects on the world which means it will impact your daily life. You are constantly bombarded with information because technology, in all its splendor, is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it's extremely liberating; it makes your life more convenient and manageable than before. On the other hand, it can be equally distracting and disorienting, since everyone tells you that you must be "connected" and "up to date" on everything.

Don't let technology take over your mind.
Don't let technology take over your mind.

Although you might think keeping up with the latest news nourishes your mind,  it actually clutters it with too much information, like you’re multitasking and trying to do too many things at once. And it’s understandable if it’s hard for you to be mindful under those circumstances, so you have to plan technology breaks into your day. 1. Take a 20-minute break where you step outside and enjoy nature or do a stretching or yoga session. 2. Don't look at your phone when you eat and when you exercise. Instead, focus on the taste, texture, and aroma of your food and on your body movements when you exercise.

Keep a Gratitude Journal

A gratitude journal is an effective and simple way to improve your well-being through mindfulness. By focusing on and writing down the things you're grateful for each morning,  you can be a happier, more fulfilled person, and the quality of your life is enhanced.

If you're not familiar with the concept of a gratitude journal, think of it simply as a diary in which you can write down three good things that happen to you each day. Not only do you have something to look back to every time, but that will also allow you to better organize your thoughts and tasks.  Coming up with those three things every morning forces you to focus on and acknowledge the good things in your life.

Everyone has things to be grateful for; it's a question of recognizing them. Writing in a gratitude journal can help you do that.

Some of the benefits of gratitude journaling also include lower stress levels, a greater sense of calm, and a whole new level of clarity. You'll learn more about yourself and gain a new perspective, allowing you to see blessings in disguise. As you practice, you'll be able to direct your time and energy toward the activities that truly make you the happiest version of yourself.

Spend Time in Nature

Nature time can enhance your creativity, boost your mental and physical health, and help you form deeper connections. What you might not know is that spending time in nature can change how you think and make you more mindful. With the pressure of day-to-day life, it can be easy to forget that you're part of something much greater than yourself: the natural world.

Spending time in green spaces and natural environments helps you form a deeper connection with something larger than yourself.

Question Your Assumptions

As a human, you are extremely good at making assumptions because of your comprehensive experience in similar areas and your reliance on assumptions for efficiency. And not only you, but more people are prone to this because it’s easy to look at the world without really seeing it. Mindfulness Meditation works to enhance your creativity and innovation, taking a fresh look at your surroundings and the people you interact with and seeing them through the eyes of mindfulness.

Mindfulness makes you more creative!

Doing this will help you see the world in a whole new perspective, unencumbered by preconceived notions. In turn, you'll have a fresh perspective on life that will even jumpstart your creativity as you let go of stale ideas and perspectives that hold you back.

The Bottom Line

The state of mindfulness is maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle and nurturing lens. Rather than letting life pass you by, mindfulness entails being present in the moment and being open to new experiences, and that's beneficial for your health and outlook on life. So don’t miss out and enjoy the benefits that being more mindful offers.

There are several methods for practicing mindfulness, but the goal of any mindfulness technique is to achieve a state of alert, focused relaxation by paying attention to thoughts and sensations without judgment. This forces the mind to return to the present moment, and all mindfulness techniques are a form of meditation.

With mindfulness, life is in the moment!

Those who learn its techniques frequently report feeling less stressed and thinking more clearly.
